Prime Minister:
This letter is to urge you to honour the signed agreements between 10 provincial premiers and the government of Canada to deliver a universal child care program.
Canadians were very enthusiastic about the federal government's commitment to create a national early learning and child care program based on the QUAD principles (Quality, Universally inclusive, Accessible and Developmental), and we have continued to be optimistic that we are at the beginning of the universal, high quality, inclusive system of child care which is a choice many Canadian families really want to have access to.
Cancelling these agreements effectively leaves many Canadian families, especially the most vulnerable, with little or no choice at all where child care is concerned.
Canadian families need income support and your commitment to such a scheme is welcomed by all parents. But it will not create any new child care spaces, nor will it give parents real choice or provide our children with the quality care they deserve.
I trust and expect you to uphold the bilateral child care agreements duly signed with the provinces and to show you really care about Canadian families and believe that universal child care is a viable choice you can support.
Sincerely,
|
