PSAC Pay Equity Bulletin
PSAC pay equity
tax case goes to Court
The PSAC is challenging the
government's practice of taxing the interest payments received by
many current and former members as part of the settlement of the
largest pay equity complaint in Canada's history.
It seems as if anything related
to pay equity can't happen quickly. Our test case (Burrows
vs Her Majesty) was chosen back in November 2001. The Discovery
phase of the process, which has taken considerable time, has finally
been completed. Now, we can move on to an actual hearing
in the Tax Court.
As soon as a Court date is
set, the information will be published on this web site.
At this time, it's too early
to speculate as to when a decision might be issued. However,
once there is a decision, it can be appealed by PSAC or the federal
government.
Any unusual developments
will be reported when they happen. Look for an update following
the Court hearings.
