EMPLOYMENT EQUITY POLICY

The Public Service Alliance of Canada is committed to providing equity in employment and a positive and inclusive environment for all individuals regardless of race, creed, colour, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, ancestry, ethnic origin, place of origin, religious affiliation, disability, language or record of offenses. The definitions contained in the Ontario Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Ontario Employment Equity Act, the Ontario Labour Relations Act, and the provisions of the A.E.U. and C.U.L.E. Collective Agreements where applicable, will be considered the minimum standard in all cases.

The Alliance is also committed to achieving and maintaining a representative workforce and initiating and implementing measures to ensure the full participation and advancement of groups which have traditionally been under-represented, including women, aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities and gay men, lesbians and bisexuals.

The Alliance is committed to compliance with the Ontario Employment Equity Act and considers the provisions of the legislation as a minimum standard in our commitment to the implementation of employment equity at the Alliance.

The Alliance undertakes to identify and remove any barriers found in the recruitment, selection, transfer, education, training and development, promotion, compensation, benefits, termination and working conditions of employees in all levels of employment. The Alliance provides reasonable accommodation and, to the extent that it is reasonably possible, implements special measures to enable individuals to compete for positions and to work with others on an equitable basis.

In support of its commitment to achieve and maintain an equitable working environment for all individuals, the Alliance provides on-going education and training on human rights issues and on the implementation of equity at the Alliance.

To achieve full employment equity, the Alliance works in partnership with the Alliance Employees' Union and the Canadian Union of Labour Employees.
