PSAC fighting to protect our members' pensions and for pension reform for all Canadians

The Harper government has been sending clear signals it will target the federal public service and use a slash-and-burn strategy to tackle the budget deficit. The defined-benefit pension plans of our members in the federal public service seem to be the government's initial target.

The government has also been bolstered by recent media articles carrying the consistent falsehood that public-sector workers enjoy an overly generous pension plan that's sheltered from recessions and whose costs are shouldered by taxpayers.

Clearly, the right-wing agenda has exploited the economic crisis by using wedge issues to spread half-truths and misinformation and pit certain segments of society against each other.

PSAC is fighting back. Your union is developing tools and information materials for our members and the public that will explain the facts, correct the misinformation and mobilize a widespread lobbying effort. This will be part of our general campaign to promote and defend quality public services and will not only strive to protect our members' pension plans but demand adequate retirement security for all Canadians.
