June 3, 2008
On June 1st, the delegates at the PSAC Québec Convention re-elected Jérôme Turcq by acclamation as Regional Executive Vice President. Brother Turcq has been holding this position since 2000. Prior to serving as Vice President, he was the Executive Vice President of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE).
Delegates also elected Magali Picard to the position of Alternate REVP. From 2000 to 2005, Sister Picard was President of the Union of Veterans' Affairs Employees (UVAE) Local 1042 in Québec. Today, she is the National Vice President of UVAE. Since April 2006, Magali Picard has been an accredited representative at the Public Service Staffing Tribunal. She is also a Joint Learning Program facilitator as well as a member of PSAC's National Aboriginal, Inuit and Métis (NAIM) Circle.
This convention was marked with the significant number of new members from Directly Chartered Locals (DCL), from which there were 20% of delegates. In fact, delegates adopted a resolution calling for DCLs to be represented at all PSAC Québec standing committees.
Delegates adopted a fair number of resolutions on education, which is recognized as a public service. Its accessibility must be universal and a recommendation was put forth to increase funding for university activities, such as research.
