Our bargaining unit at the Parks Canada Agency fluctuates from around 3000 employees (winter) to over 4400 at the height of the summer season. These members are employed in such diverse fields as architecture, commerce, engineering, finance, forestry, general labour and trades, historical research and program administration. From summer students to seasonal workers, from office staff to park wardens, members working for Parks Canada help preserve our rich natural heritage. The Parks Canada Agency is a separate employer under the Public Service Labour Relations Act.

UCTE Local 00056 members formed an information picket at the entrance to the Visitor Center's parking lot during a press event held by the Panel on the Future of the Trent-Severn Waterway on April 28, 2008.
The union members timed the mobilization during the panel's report to raise public awareness on the stalled contract negotiation with Parks Canada and the outstanding issues of contracting out, elimination of pay zones, misuse of student hiring and other issues.
Despite the rain, the media event drew in many dignitaries, including stakeholders, municipal councilors, MPs, MPPs and Environment Minister John Baird, as well as local news media. Only Smith-Enismore-Lakefield Deputy Reeve Mary Smith took the time to stop and introduce herself. After a short talk with Local 00056 president Ralf Bucherer, Ms. Smith gave the picketers a big thumbs up.
Brother Bucherer was later interviewed by a reporter from 980Kruz.

Local President Rhéal Vautour asked the new superintendent of the Kouchibouguac National Park to send this message to Alan Latourelle. The superintendent said he will.
